BIRD TIME
(2014 / 93 minutes / subbed both in Japanese and English)
The relationship between humans and birds revisited
The director's grandfather once said, “There used to be a time when the sky over the village would be swarmed with clouds of migrating birds.”
Remembering the story, the director embarks on a journey to find the passage of the birds.
When migrating birds gathered in large flocks, the villagers would put up kasumi-ami, traditional mist nets, to capture those birds.
A lot of questions arose in his mind: How did they do the hunting? Why did they have to eat migrating birds? And why is the hunting of these birds prohibited today? During his journey, he tries to find answers to these questions patiently, one by one.
